It’s a time when thousands of volunteers, businesspeople, neighbors, and local and national elected and civic leaders come together to help make their communities healthy, sustainable places. Bankruptcies….Closed businesses…Declining jobs…Run-down neighborhoods. Network member HANDS in Orange, New Jersey, has found a winning response that leverages the arts to grow a more vibrant economy. It’s just one example of “creative placemaking” that is proving successful in cities and towns across the country.

Oklahoma youth work with local government to revive a town eyesore |

When an Oklahoma public park declined due to years of neglect, NeighborWorks member Little Dixie Community Action Agency formed a youth-led coalition. The participants created a plan of action and took it to the city council. Today the park is a model for successful community engagement and a safe place to play. |
